Posted 04/03/2007
Americus-- Memorial Hospital of Gulfport, Mississippi knows all about dealing with the devastation of Mother Nature.

The hospital received substantial damage from Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and when they heard about Sumter Regional Hospital and the damage it receive from the March 1 tornado, they wanted to help just like so many helped them two years ago.

Led by President & CEO Gary Marchand, a group of delegates recently visited to show their support of SRH and its employees.  The group met with employees at the field hospital across the street, and also witnessed the devastation inside of the damaged building.  The group then met with hospital representatives for lunch and a question and answer session.

According to Memorial Foundation President Dave Estorage, the Mississippi hospital's physicians, staff and friends of the facility has raised more than $13,500 for Sumter Regional Hospital and its employees.  He also stated that there is more on the way, and that they even had a campaign named for SRH called "It's Our Turn".

"So many people assisted us in our time of need, and we felt that now it was our turn to show support to someone else in need," said Estorage.

SRH President & CEO David Seagraves thanked the group for their visit and generosity, and they were given a loud ovation from the SRH representatives.
