8-year-old Raises Money for Storm-Damaged Hospital
A second-grader who was born at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus has raised more than a thousand dollars to help the tornado-battered hospital.

Kody Tissue, who lives about 15 miles from Americus in Leslie, saw the destruction on his daily ride to school and knew the hospital would need money. So he sprang into action.

He collected money from family and friends. He spent evenings and weekends with his father riding bicycles around neighborhoods to ask for donations.
He took up collections at church. And on Monday, he'll get to present the money to Sumter Regional President David Seagraves.

The hospital moved into tents after the violent storm that ripped through Americus on March 1st, toppling walls and breaking windows. The storm also destroyed physicians' offices near the hospital in the southwest Georgia city.
Hospital spokeswoman Comfort Green says this week the hospital's emergency room and outpatient services moved into large Federal Emergency Management Agency trailers. She says no official damage estimate has been determined.
