Volvo Rents Donates $3500 to Lions Club International for Sumter Regional Hospital
Posted 08/02/2007
Lions Club program will double the donation to $7000 for tornado-damaged hospital.

Volvo Rents became the latest organization to pledge its support for Sumter Regional Hospital, which was devastated by a March 1st tornado.

Local affiliate Volvo Rents of Americus and its employees donated $2500, and an additional $1000 was donated by Volvo Finance of Greensboro, NC and Volvo Rents of Asheville, NC with each giving $500.

Volvo Rents donated the money to Lions Club International, which will double the donation to $7000.

Dr. Leonard LaRussa, treasurer and president-elect of the local club, said that Lions International will match donations made for the hospital in a fund called the Sumter Regional Hospital Equipment Fund up to $75,000.

For instance, if an organization donates $1,000, Lions International will match another $1,000 up to $75,000, LaRussa explained.

The Sumter Regional Hospital Equipment Fund is currently set up at Sumter Bank & Trust for donations, LaRussa said.

“Lions International is the largest service club in the world and cares about providing relief and assistance where it's most needed,” LaRussa said.

Checks can be made directly to Sumter Bank & Trust with a notation for the Equipment Fund for the match, or the checks can be made directly to the Americus Lions Club for the match, LaRussa explained.
