Donations for Storm Relief, Hospital Seeks More Permanent Location
March 21, 2007

A Sumter County bank makes a $100,000 contribution to the tornado clean up effort.

Citizen's Bank of Americus presented two $50,000 checks one to Sumter Regional Hospital, the other to the Sumter Disaster Relief Fund. The money will go towards items needed that insurance won't cover. Sumter Regional Hospital is still waiting to hear from its insurance provider on the hospital's future and are making plans for more temporary facilities whatever is decided.

"The other $50,000 is being donated to the Sumter Disaster Relief Fund incorporated which is a new fund that was just created and that money will be used to meet the unmet needs of the community as a result of the devastation of the tornados," said Rich Whatley, Citizen's bank President and CEO.

"Hopefully work through FEMA to have modular structures that we can assemble on that slab that would serve us during the renovations and reconstruction period of the hospital," said David Seagraves, SRH President and CEO.
Seagraves hopes to set up that more permanent temporary hospital once the Healthplex site can be cleared of debris. The debris is expected to be hauled away over the next month.
