Part-time Sumter County Residents Donate $50,000 to Sumter Regional Hospital
Posted 04/24/2007
There is a perception among many that small towns are friendly and welcoming.  The origin of this bit of folklore is unknown, but Bruce and Betty Hall, new part-time residents of Sumter County, would heartily agree.

Bruce and Betty live in Salisbury, Maryland, where he is the founder and President of B&H Coatings.  The Halls recently bought a second home, a farm in Smithville (Georgia) so that they could enjoy “country living.”  On the evening of March 1, the Halls were returning to their farm from the Atlanta airport.  They received a phone call and had to turn back to Atlanta; otherwise, they would have been in downtown Americus when the tornado hit.

After the storm, the Halls toured Sumter Regional Hospital to observe the damage, and they wanted to support the hospital's efforts to restore the quality of care for which Sumter Regional has been known for more than 50 years in Southwest Georgia.  Their donation of $50,000 makes them a vital part of the recovery of the hospital.

Mr. Hall explained, “We have had healthcare issues and know the importance of good healthcare in a community.  This community has welcomed us with open arms and we want to be here for a long time.”
