SGTC Gives Donation to SRH The South Georgia Technical College Foundation presented the Sumter Regional Hospital Foundation with a donation in honor of Judge Griffin Bell following the eighth annual Griffin B. Bell convocation held in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the South Georgia Technical College campus recently. “We are pleased to be able to recognize Judge Bell with a gift to the Sumter Regional Hospital Foundation in his honor,” said South Georgia Technical College President Sparky Reeves. “Judge Bell is a tremendous asset to South Georgia Technical College and to our community as well as the entire nation. We appreciate his willingness and desire to be a part of an event that is designed to encourage and motivate our students and we know that he realizes how important restoring Sumter Regional Hospital is to our community.” Reeves presented the check in honor of Judge Bell to Sumter Regional Hospital Chief Executive Officer David Seagraves, Sumter Regional Hospital Foundation Board member John Argo, and Sumter Regional Hospital Foundation Chairman Brent Williams. In addition to the gift to the Sumter Regional Hospital Foundation, the South Georgia Technical College Foundation also presented Judge Bell with a certificate for two large dogwood trees for his home here in Americus. Bell's home was in the direct path of the tornado that hit Americus and Sumter County on March 1st and he sustained damage to his house as well as to over 200 fully grown pine trees. “Judge Bell we were pleased to make the donation to the hospital in your honor, but we also wanted to give you something that we thought might be very appropriate in the light of the recent tornado,” said SGTC President Sparky Reeves. “We know that you lost several hundred trees to the tornado and that you are in the process of landscaping your yard. It is my privilege to present you with this certificate for two large dogwood trees. We hope you will enjoy them and think of South Georgia Technical College each time you see them.” This was the eighth annual Griffin B. Bell Convocation held at South Georgia Technical College and it was made possible by an endowed donation to the Foundation by Judge Bell. The convocation series was established by Bell in an effort to bring outstanding individuals with expertise in business, science, or technology to the SGTC campus to encourage and inspire young people. R. Charles Loudermilk, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Aaron Rents was the keynote speaker at the eighth annual convocation. Other speakers have included: Tom Young, retired Lockheed Martin and NASA executive; Dan Amos, AFLAC; Thomas A. Gales of Caterpillar, Inc.; Cliff Oxford, STI Knowledge; James Blanchard, Chief Executive Officer of Synovus; Virgil Williams, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Williams Group International, Inc, a diversified multi-company conglomerate with major subsidiaries in construction maintenance, civil and environmental engineering and A.
